Choosing A Perfect Niche For Your First Website…
Many people panic at the thought of choosing their first niche as they think that they do not have enough expertise in any specific area.
But choosing a perfect niche for your first website is actually quite a stress free process and here are a few pointers to help you on your way.
What Is A Niche?
A niche is anything that one specific audience can relate to and we are all involved in some way in a variety of different niches every single day.
- For instance if you are a pet owner and you adopted your little canine fur-babies, then that is a smaller sub-section of being a pet owner as you only have dogs that has been rescued.
- Or if you follow a healthy diet but only eat vegan food then eating a healthy vegan diet is a niche that you are involved in.
Types Of Niches
Niches can be evergreen or hobby related and both types can be highly profitable choices, as there are different sectors of the population that will always be spending money on them.
The three biggest evergreen niche subjects are health, wealth and relationships, as these are the main things that the majority of people are always seeking in life to some degree.
You just need to look at all the different books and websites that are involved in different areas of these niches, to see how much they are in demand. Each of these niche subjects has within it a multitude of smaller niches and below are just a few examples.
Health matters to everyone as a healthy body and mind are essential if you want to enjoy your life to the fullest and we are constantly spending money to maintain our health.
Examples are: stop smoking, weight loss, diabetes control, different diets, lowering blood pressure, dealing with anxiety etc.
We all need enough money to be able to do the things that we want and an increasing number of people are now looking to create an income online. We will also invest in different products that will help us achieve the amount of wealth that we desire.
For example: make money online, your own business, affiliate marketing, influencer marketing, MLM and so on…
Everyone wants to be happy and strive to become involved in meaningful relationships that then takes work to maintain. Huge amounts of money is spent on obtaining that relationship and then to keep the romance alive.
Niche examples are: online dating, romantic getaways, law of attraction, marriage counseling, gifts and flowers etc.
Hobbies and Passions
There are literally thousands of different hobbies and passions to choose from and many involve everyday people spending a lot of money on.
Some of my hobbies and passions for example include weight training, cooking healthy food, travel and scuba-diving, all of which I spend varying amounts of money on to pursue.

How Do You Start Selecting A Niche?
First start off by creating a list of absolutely everything that you like doing now on a regular basis or have ever really enjoyed in the past.
- Think about the different subjects that you often read about when searching the web, or the article links that you click on when browsing your FaceBook page.
- If you were sitting in a waiting room that had a pile of magazines which ones would you chose to have a read of?
Niches can be about absolutely anything and you don’t need to have to already have a vast knowledge about it, you just want to choose something that you’d be happy constantly reading and researching about for the foreseeable future.
Do Your Research
Next do some searches on Google and take a look to see how many other sites are focused around your niche idea to see if it could be a good choice.
It is also a good idea to use a keyword research tool to see how popular your niche is and see the amount of competition for different aspects of it.
For example, I searched How To Travel The World which is a hugely popular niche and had over 6,400 searches for it, with 238 other websites already within that niche, which isn’t a bad place to start.
If you look at the other search results there are lots of ideas that include the main search term, but have narrowed down the audience and competing websites.
Therefore you could write about these topics such as ‘How To Travel The World And Make Money’ within your website and easily get your content ranked.
Could You Earn From It?
You can make money with any niche that you chose though some are a lot easier to monetize than others, take a look at other blogs in your niche to see if they are promoting any products and if so what they are.
You can also do a Google search for related affiliate programs to see the different kinds of products that you could promote and write reviews on for your website. Just put the search term for your chosen niche + affiliate programs and all the different results will come up.

Choosing The Perfect Niche For Your First Website
One mistake that beginners make is that they think that they can build a website, write half a dozen pages and then just wait for the money to start coming in. That’s a bit like working your butt off in the gym for a week and expecting your muscles to miraculously grow and your love handles to vanish…
If you want to see results then you have to constantly work towards achieving them and that means that you need to write content for your website on a regular basis and train every week. 🙂
This is why it is important that you think about whether you would be happy researching and writing about your chosen niche for years to come.
Take a look at your chosen niche idea and have a brainstorming session of all the different things that people might search the internet for that are related to it. These are going to be your initial content ideas and when you start researching them you will soon come up with many more.
So as you can see it’s really not that difficult to come up with ideas for choosing the perfect niche for your first website and if you have joined Wealthy Affiliate as a free starter member you get two free websites to get you going.
